Minister takes Advantage
of opportunity to visit Bristol hi-tech company

Reprint from Business West Update – September 2005

The Rt Hon Alun Michael MP, Minister of State for Industry and the Regions, visited Bristol at the end of June as part of a tour of the M4 corridor.

While in the city, Mr Michael met with Business West member, Visual Advantage International, visiting their premises and meeting directors and staff to find out more about their business and hear, at first hand, the issues they are facing to achieve growth.

Mr Michael, visiting with Small Business Service chief executive Martin Wyn Griffiths, is particularly interested in the hi-tech sector and the concentration of expertise in small businesses.

Visual Advantage specialises in real-time interactive 3D graphics, visual collaboration and
digital mock-up technologies with clients in Europe, the United States and the Asia-Pacific region.

The Minister, who has responsibility for enterprise, strengthening regional economies and the Small Business Service, heard about the challenges the business is facing in growing and recruiting staff to meet the potential of the business.

Chris Davis, managing director of Visual Advantage, said: “The minister seemed genuinely interested in the business and was keen to know if we were aware of the support services available to small growing businesses such as ours for investment in research and development.  He was particularly interested in hearing about our technological developments and the international markets we are exploring for our products.”
